Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest.

Hello bibliophiles. I am back again with another book review.

I started reading this book because I was a part of a book club and it was our November book of the month. I was having a hard time getting into the book because High Fantasy books are a bit harder to get into. But I was glad I got to it eventually.

Let’s talk about the plot. I find the plot unique. It was a lot of fun reading it. The uniqueness of the plot draw me more to the book, even if it took me awhile to finish it. The idea of killing your other sisters to be crowned queen is really amazing. It was the first time I got to read a book like that.

The three soon-to-be queens are fun to read about. I really like Katharine because no matter how weak she things she is, she still managed to come out strong. Mirabella was always the strong  but just like an ordinary person, she also has a sweet spot. She can be vulnerable at times. Then we have Arsinoe. The reveal of the true powers of Arsinoe was such as shock.

The side characters were all such great help in the story. They make the story much more understanding and easy to learn. They are such great help and they are all awesome. The side the characters that I like the most are Jules and Joseph. The two of them had such great impact to the whole story and to the main characters.

The world building wasn’t that good. Like I said earlier, I was having a hard time getting into the story. I think the author needs to work on her world building. It lacks a little bit of more details into the world.

Since I enjoyed the story, it would probably say that it has a great impact to me. But it’s impact is not that high but it certainly made me want read the next book. But I have to wait for at least a year for the sequel to be released.

The writing style is good but it needs a little bit more of details into the story. I find it hard to really understand it all because like what I’ve been saying earlier, it took me a while to get into the book fully.
