Hello bibliophiles!!!

It’s the time of the month again!

BOOK HAUL

First, I’ll be sharing to you the books I got or received for the month of July. Compared to last month, I only got one book this month.

I went to Book Sale, a bargain bookstore in my country, just two weeks ago. I came across Shadowland in the pile and decided to get it because, why not?

It was for less than 3 USD and it is a hardcover copy! And it looks so new!!

WRAP UP

This month I was able to read 5 books. Most of it on ebook because I was so into reading at night than day because of school.

  • It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – ★★★★★
  • Hopeless by Colleen Hoover – ★★★★★
  • Dream Me by Kathryn Berla – ★★★★★
  • Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover – ★★★★★
  • Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover – ★★★★★

I have some reviews of some of the books up right now. Check them out by clicking the titles.

And you would notice that I was in a Colleen Hoover kind of month. I was just so into her books that I wasn’t able to read other books than CoHo’s books.

That ends my haul and wrap up for the month of July. Thank you for reading and have a great day!

BOOK REVIEW: “Hopeless” by Colleen Hoover

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies.

That’s what seventeen year old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secret he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

Hello Bibliophiles!

I’m back to bring you another book review of CoHo’s books. I read this book over 2 weeks ago and just wrote a review today. School was in the way most of the time, so I had less time writing a review.

Review

This month was filled with some Colleen Hoover reads. You can check out my early July Wrap Up.

I read this book without actually reading the synopsis of the book. I read this with no idea about the premise of the book. AND OMG! I’m glad I did it because it made me see things so differently. And the shock factors are there! I can’t help but admire the book even if it has a different kind of message.

CoHo certainly writes the most amazing books ever! I can’t wait to read the rest of her books.

*spoiler review coming*

I never thought that this book was about abuse at all. Upon reading the first part of the book, I was so into it that I was expecting it to be a cliché book. The typical high school rumors ruining a new girl’s life made the start a bit cliché for me. But aside from that it was all amazing minus the abuse thing though.

I was so shocked that Hope and Sky are the same two people and the fact that Sky was capable of forgetting her past just like that. I never expected that it’s possible. Maybe because she suffered too much under her father’s roof that she was capable to forgetting it all. I felt the pain of Holder when he found out that Sky and Hope is the same person. Like that would be so painful, at the same time overwhelming.

I was also shocked that Sky was kidnapped by her own aunt without knowing it! LIKE WHAT THE HELL?! It’s so unbelievable! But I completely understand why her aunt did it. It’s to save Hope from suffering too much. It also shocked me that Hope’s best friend suffered the same faith as her when she left her father. It sucks that Les went through it. (I’ll talk about that on my next review).

I’m glad that Holder was able to find Hope and I’m glad Hope or Sky was able to find out about the issue before Karen, her aunt, told her. It was best that she found out on her own and that she got the time to process everything. As much as it’s bad to be thankful that someone died, I was thankful that her father died or killed himself. Because if he didn’t he can possible do the same thing to Hope all over again.

BOOK TAG: Mid-Year Book Freak Out

Hello bibliophiles!

I saw this tag in Bibliophile Med Student‘s blog and decided to do it since it’s like the middle of the year now, kind of. So, let’s do this!

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

images.jpgThis one is hard! I’ve read a lot of great books this year so far. I don’t think I can chose! But I have to, right? I’d definitely go with A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas because that is one of my most anticipated book of the year. And it made me cry like so hard! It made me feel a lot of emotions, I didn’t think I have. Check out my review here.

2. YOUR FAVORITE SEQUEL OF 2017

images (1).jpgWhy is this hard? I’d go with A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas with this. I read ACOTAR last year and it was amazing. But upon reading ACOMAF, I just fell in love with Rhysand! Who didn’t, right? I have a review of this, here.

3. A NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ BUT WANT TO

51-HArKnTQL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

I’d say, Always and Forever Lara Jean by Jenny Han. This is another one of my most anticipated release .this year. The reason I haven’t read it yet is because I haven’t bought a copy of the book yet. I plan to get it as soon as I have the money.

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

31450852.jpg

This is going to be another SJM book and that is Tower of Dawn. Who isn’t excited for that?

5. YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset
Photo from @wandersbetweenpages

I expected to much with Somewhere In Between by Katie Li. The cover was amazing and the synopsis was amazing too. But I honestly didn’t like how it was written or might have just been me. But if you’re curious, check out my full thoughts on this book here.

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE YEAR

27362503.jpg

I am super surprised with my sudden love for Colleen Hoover books. But what surprised me the most is It Ends With Us. I didn’t expect that it was that intense to read the book. I cried a river. Check out my full thoughts and emotions here.

7. FAVE NEW TO YOU OR DEBUT AUTHOR

Just like what I said earlier, Colleen Hoover. She’s not a new author but I’ve only read her books this year. So, she’s fairly new to me! And I’ve been binge reading her books now!

8. YOUR NEW FICTIONAL CRUSH

I don’t have any new fictional crush so far.

9. NEW FAVORITE CHARACTER

Lily Bloom from It Ends With Us! She’s the person I look up to not because of her past but because of how strong she become after every awful thing that happened to her. I just love strong female characters.

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

It Ends With Us, obviously! Full review here. (Just read the book, so you’ll know!)

11. A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

28688476.jpg

Something In Between by Melissa Dela Cruz. I cannot help but love this book because of it’s Filipino lead character and plus a Filipino author!

12. FAVE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

I haven’t watched any book to movie adaptation so far. I ain’t got the money to see them.

13. FAVE BOOK POST PUBLISHED THIS YEAR

The blog post of Nica from nicsthebibliophile. She interviewed me! Check it out!

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT/RECEIVED

I’d say my very first copy of any of Cassandra Clare’s books. I bought a hard cover copy of City of Lost Souls! It was a huge steal! I got it for more than half off it’s price!

15. WHAT ARE THE BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

The Red Sun, Kalifus Rising and The Raven God, all by Alane Adams

gold-brown-floral-divider-1

That was a hand full!!! But I enjoyed doing this tag. Do it if you want to.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

BOOK REVIEW: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

Review

It took me so long to read this book! I was supposed to read it when it was released but decided against it because I want to read the rest of CoHo’s books. So it took me at least a year to read any of her books and here I am about to share my thoughts about this beautiful book.

The premise of the book is a bit vague and I know all synopsis are like that. Since I avoided any spoilers of any CoHo books, I don’t know anything about her books aside from the fact that all her books are amazing.

So I really like how the book started off. It’s a bit of a shock but it was meant to be like that, which you’d understand along the way. I like the fact that Lily is so true to herself. And that she is able to stand for what she thinks is right. A woman like her should be a role model!

When Ryle was introduced to the story, I fell in love with his charisma even though he’s a bit weird. But I never thought that they would mean again and that one person made that happen. It shocked me and I was happy that destiny made them see each other again.

I really like Lily’s style of writing a journal entry. I never thought that you would do such. I really enjoyed all of Lily’s journal entries, especially those about Atlas. It brings me into tears every time Atlas suffers from being homeless.

It sucks that Lily has to go through the same thing her mother suffered. And it’s clear to Lily why her mother did all of those of her. I really do admire strong women. They make hard things look easy but when you’re in their situation, you’d think twice about it.

The whole story is just amazing. But I never thought that I’d cry like crazy! It broke my heart like crazy. It took me forever to get over the book. That’s why it took me forever to write a review. I needed time to process everything. I need to fully understand why it had to happen. It sucks but now I fully understand why. And I totally respect Lily’s decision. I am also glad that Ryle accepted it even though it pains him to comply with Lily’s wish.

★★★★★

So if you haven’t read this book, you better read it but be prepared to get your heart broken into a million pieces!

Thank you for reading this short review and have a great day!

By the Book Tag |#bythebook

Hello bibliophiles!

It’s time for me to do another book tag! I wasn’t tagged to do this here. But I was tagged in Instgram and decided to do a blog about it since I’m including book tags on my blog now!

  • What books are you on your bedside table?

I don’t have a bedside table but I keep a book by my pillow. The book beside me would always be my current read. That book is The Moonstone, book 1 of Enchantment, by Evelyne Contant.

  • What was the last book you really enjoyed?

The latest books I read can be considered enjoyable but minus the tears I shred while reading. Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover is the last book I read that I enjoyed and cried!

  • If you could meet any author, who would it be?

I badly want to meet Sarah J. Maas and Colleen Hoover the most because they are the top 2 authors that made cry! Especially CoHo because almost all of her books made me ugly cry. I wanna ask her why she did all of that!

  • Which book would be surprising to find in your shelf?

Probably a history book. I have a history book on my shelf as well as a Political Science book. As much as I don’t enjoy politics, I have it on mys shelf because it fits the book shelf.

  • How do you organize your library?

I only have a small book shelf, so I don’t organize them in a particular way. I just make sure that the books would be arranged by author without particular order.

  • Which book should you have read already?

The Mortal Instruments. I have read the first book but I don’t have the motivation to read it because I don’t own a copy of the next book. I only have City of Lost Souls. I need to get the rest of the series before I start it. I know I’m somehow behind the Shadowhunter hype.

  • A book that disappoints you.

Definitely Crossed by Ally Condie. Sorry to say that.

  • What kind of story grabs your attention?

Books that I can relate with especially those with friendship crisis. Any book with fairies and mermaids would probably make me want to read it.

  • What books do you intend to read soon?

I intend to read the rest of CoHo’s books. Also the rest of the ToG books.

ARC BOOK REVIEW: Dream Me by Kathryn Berla

Title: Dream Me

Author: Kathryn Berla

Format/Edition: Paperback (ARC)

Published: July 11, 2017

Publisher: Amberjack Publishing

Genre: Young Adult, Romance

ISBN: 9781944995201

DREAM BECOME A REALITY?

Zat is a dreamer from the distant future — a time when humans no longer dream and Earth is a desolate wasteland. He dreams of the beautiful Earth of the past, and a fiery-haired beauty named Babe. Against the wisdom of his peers, Zat decides to risk everything to travel back in time and live in Babe’s dreams…

Babe is the perpetual new girl in town. Her father’s job frequently moved the family around the country, and Babe just longs for a place to call home. As she settles into the sleepy town if Sugar Dunes, Florida, Babe begins to have strange dreams of a green-eyed boy named Zat. Night after night, Babe shows Zat her world. But the dreams come at the cost of nearly crippling migraines every morning. Babe’s life outside of her dreams pales in comparison to her growing love for Zat and their time spent together.

But the more time Babe and Zat spend together in her dreams, the more Babe’s pain increases, and Zat begins to question the reality of his existence. How can he live a life with Babe, when all they have is her dream?

Before I start my review, I’d like to thank Ms. Kathryn Berla for sending her book my way. I am so honored that she accepted my request.

Now with the review, my first thoughts of this book was it would be a fun and easy read. And it was. It took me a while to finish it because of my laziness and a reading slump.

I never thought that a dream can turn into a reality. Like we all know that our dreams has traces of real things but a person you only knew in a dream turns out to be real! Like what?! How is that even possible?!

This book made me think that the people we see in our dreams existed but we don’t personally know them in the waking life. We just dream about them because they just want to, I guess. This book is filled with so much imaginations and realism.

I honestly don’t like reading about the Earth being a wasteland in the future. I don’t want to think that it will happen because I want the beauty of our mother Earth gone. It’s too precious to become a wasteland. And also the fact that just because someone is donating huge amount of money into the organization, could get special treated and could get away with the wrong doings. It sucks that somehow our society is turning into that now.
I love Babe’s blog the most. As much as Babe’s blog is about her life, I can relate to it because I have a blog dedicated to my love for books. It’s nice to have a place where you can share your thoughts without anyone judging you.

I love the plot of the book so much. It makes us see that we shouldn’t take for granted our planet. It also makes us see that people being gay, lesbian or etc, gets discriminated by people. And also the fact that we tend to judge people because they are not rich. The gap between the wealthy and poor is so clear that you can’t ignore it.

The book is written beautifully and you can clearly see that the characters have development throughout the book. I also love that we get to see both Zat and Babe’s perspective without it being too overwhelming.

Overall, I love this book! I just wished I read faster. But oh well, at least I get to enjoy the ending!

Rating:

★★★★★

Thank you for reading and have a great day! Don’t forget to grab a copy of Dream Me. It’s out today!

Ruler of Books Tag #RulerofBooks

Hello Bibliophiles

I’m back with a new book tag! In this tag, we are asked six questions. Let’s start!

  • What book would you make everyone read?

The book or books I would make everyone read is A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy because why not? It is written beautifully by the Queen. No one should not read it! It is definitely worth the read and worth the hype and love.

  • What would you abolish in book construction?

I would say the super thin pages of a book. There is a tendency for publishers to publish a book over 600 pages with bible like paper. And it sucks! We want to see the ordinary paper. We want to differentiate a book with 500 pages from a book with over 600 pages. Another thing is the mismatched height and cover of books. I understand the different editions but what I don’t understand is the fact that they make a new cover for the last book a series. Making us all cringe because our copies are no longer matching. We want matching books in a series!

  • What would you demote to the library basement?

Sorry to say, but I’m putting the Matched trilogy to the basement. As much as I love the first book, I hated the second book of how annoying both characters are. I don’t have issues with changing POV but the fact that there is no action or development sucks! If only there were 2 books, then it would be amazing!

  • What artist would you commission to make a mural?

The person who designed both the Throne of Glass books and A Court of Thorns and Roses books. All of the covers are amazing!

  • Which character’s face would you put on a coin?

I’d chose my top 3 book boyfriends, Rhys, Maxon and Peter K. No need of explanation!

  • What would you award the Ruler of Books so far in 2017?

This award would definitely go to A Court of Wings and Ruin by Queen Sarah J. Maas!
